Kansas City Chiefs need to thrive in 2021: More effective run game

For as good as the Chiefs’ offense was last year, their run game sure didn’t pull its weight. The rushing attack finished smack dab in the middle of the pack as far as rushing yards go and there were several games where the run game did next to nothing.

Of course, there were outliers, including Week 6’s smothering victory over the Bills in which Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushed for 161 yards and the team as a whole tallied over 200 yards on the ground. Those kinds of performances were great to see, but they weren’t common.

Edwards-Helaire is talented, there’s no debating that, but the Chiefs need to see him make a bigger impact. The offensive line can be blamed for the lack of a run game too, but the Chiefs spent a first-round pick on CEH because they thought he was the missing piece on offense. It’s time for him to prove it in 2021.

If the Chiefs can have a better run game, it’ll open things up even more for their air raid attack. No defense wants to deal with a Chiefs offense who can throw and run the ball effectively. It’d make this team even scarier to face.
