Draft Prospects for KC Chiefs to Avoid – Liam Eichenberg, OT (Notre Dame)

There really isn’t a lot to write here, which is why I posted about Liam Eichenberg last.

While I can say I wasn’t enamored with Eichenberg’s tape specifically on deep drops, there were a lot of traits I could see working for the Chiefs. The reason I have him listed here as someone to avoid actually comes not from tape but an interview with Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly.

If, during an interview, Kelly isn’t standing on a table for his player as a left tackle prospect, why are fans talking about him as a left tackle?

I understand fully that comments from a coach can often be worthless, so if the Chiefs are sitting in their draft room and the Andy’s (Reid and Heck) are pounding the table for Eichenberg, that’s fine. But to say a coach saying that about his player on the eve of the draft doesn’t merit discussion, well, I firmly believe it does.

Eichenberg might be a fine NFL tackle, but he’d be a risky first-round pick and probably won’t live up to the hype at left tackle.

So what gives and what could happen for the Kansas City Chiefs?

I could see Spencer Brown as an option in rounds two or three, but I am not sure the Chiefs can take a chance on a player coming from a lower level and switching sides after not playing this past season as their blindside protector.

With only a few weeks, it will be interesting to see what happens with the draft. Do the Chiefs move back? They likely should if they can find a halfway reasonable offer.
