Demarcus Robinson re-signed with the KC Chiefs and made a bold statement about what he expects from himself in 2021.

Once again, Demarcus Robinson is back with the Kansas City Chiefs. He re-signed on a one-year deal and chose the Chiefs over signing with the Lions, as he revealed on Good Morning Football on Thursday.

Robinson likely returned to Kansas City because he knows this offense and what’s expected of him. He likes playing with Patrick Mahomes (who wouldn’t?) and the Chiefs are going to be a Super Bowl contender almost every year as long as Mahomes is under center.

Robinson revealed in that interview that he’s ready to put up bigger numbers and be more of an impact playmaker in the Chiefs’ offense.

"“Every other season, it’s (been) four, five touchdowns, 500 yards,” Robinson said of his previous production. “I just think it picks up a little bit more right now. I’m looking for the opportunity — not for them to give me the opportunity — but go in there and take the opportunity. Go in there and show that I am a guy who can put up 1,000 yards a year and 10 touchdowns. I’m ready to make that happen. They said they’ve got something in store for me. I’m ready to show them.”"

Can the KC Chiefs realistically expect Demarcus Robinson to be a No. 2 wide receiver on offense?

Robinson was a fourth-round pick by the Chiefs back in 2016 and while his numbers have gotten better each year, it hasn’t been by much. This past year saw the former Florida Gator haul in 45 receptions for 466 yards and three touchdowns. It was a career-high in yardage for Robinson, but the previous two years saw him find the end zone four times.

Robinson has shown that he can be explosive. In Week 2 of the 2019 season, Robinson erupted for 172 yards off of six catches and had two touchdowns in the 28-point second quarter for the Chiefs. After that, however, Robinson was pretty quiet for the rest of the year.

When Tyreek Hill was injured during that time, that was when Robinson needed to step up and show he could be a reliable WR2 and he did it one week but then faded into the background. The Chiefs re-signed him last year as depth for this year, but with Sammy Watkins off to Baltimore, Robinson needs to have a bigger role.

It’s good to hear Robinson want to play a bigger part on the offense because the Chiefs need a WR2 behind Hill. It’d benefit everyone in this situation if Robinson did ball out in 2021 because the Chiefs would obviously be the benefactors of the production and Robinson would wind up with a nice contract elsewhere.

Robinson has struggled with drops throughout his career though and that’s been something that’s held him back. It’d be awesome if Robinson could get 1,000 yards for the first time in his career, but considering he’s yet to even reach 500 yards or five touchdowns, I’d taper expectations here.
