The KC Royals have experienced inconsistencies early on in 2021, from the offensive production to the pitching staff.

One week into the 2021 MLB season and the Kansas City Royals have kept their fans entertained. it hasn’t all been sunshine and smiles, of course, but for the most part, fans have enjoyed the start to the season.

While the Royals have made things fun so far, they’ve been inconsistent, at least according to Martin Fenn of Bleacher Report. Fenn wrote an article describing every MLB team with just one word and inconsistent was the word he used to describe the boys in blue.

"But Kansas City has scored just eight runs combined in its last three and managed just four hits against Cleveland on Wednesday. The starting group has also been inconsistent, as Brad Keller and Brady Singer had tough first outings while Danny Duffy and Jakob Junis provided more steadying performances."

Before we dive further into this, I’ll note that this article was written before the Royals’ game against the White Sox on Thursday afternoon, so Fenn’s post and my post both are referring to Kansas City’s first five games in which the team went 3-2.

The KC Royals have had some inconsistencies early on, but hasn’t every team?

While I agree with some of Fenn’s sentiments, all teams are inconsistent in some capacity and not just one week into the season, but throughout the season. The Major League Baseball season is a marathon, not a sprint, so inconsistencies are bound to happen at some point.

Yes, the Royals’ offense cooled off after scoring 25 runs in their first two games, but they were facing a horrid Rangers pitching staff in their first series and did exactly what they should do against them. Then, when facing a much tougher pitching staff in Cleveland, the offense cooled off. Not scoring 25 runs against the Indians doesn’t mean the Royals are inconsistent, it means they had to work harder to score runs.

I’ll give him that the pitching has been wobbly, but again, that’s not uncommon with pitchers, especially coming off a year where they didn’t pitch a full 162-game season. This year is going to be strange for a lot of MLB pitchers.

A word I’d use to describe the Royals early on is feisty. This was a word used to potentially describe them this year a month before the season and its one that I like for the 2021 Kansas City Royals.

What would be your one word to describe the Royals so far?
