KC Chiefs Mock Draft 5.0

Round 6: Pick 207 – Jaylon Moore, OT (Western Michigan)

. Offensive Tackle. Broncos . Jaylon Moore. 206. player. 405

With their final pick in the 2021 NFL Mock Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select Jaylon Moore out of Western Michigan. The Chiefs need all the help they can get along the o-line and Moore offers them another depth piece.

While KC added Walker Little earlier on in the draft, there’s no guarantee he’s the same guy he was at Stanford. That’s why drafting another left tackle later on and using him more as a project player could be a good idea here (just look at Nick Allegretti and what he’s been able to do in just two seasons).

Moore played left tackle for the Broncos and has done so since 2018. He’s probably not going to be the answer in that spot anytime soon, but if Little doesn’t pan out, maybe after a few years Moore could be the guy there. Or, maybe the Chiefs coach him up at another spot on the o-line instead.

The Chiefs have done well with late-round offensive line selections. Allegretti is the most recent example, but the Chiefs also found Laurent Duvernay-Tardif in the sixth round back in 2014 and they found Zach Fulton in the same round of the same draft.

Don’t rule out an offensive lineman just because he’s a late-round pick. Jaylon Moore could be a really good player if he gets the proper time to develop in the pros.

While many Chiefs fans are going to be clamoring for the team to fix the offensive line early on, they couldn’t pass up the chance to draft Kwity Paye in the first round. Fans probably wouldn’t be angry about that if Paye is still there late in the first round, though it’s hard to see that happening.

By passing on Paye, the Chiefs gambled on potentially not finding their left tackle of the future, but the board fell their way and they managed to steal Walker Little in the fourth round. Little hasn’t played a football game in over a year and a half, but when he did last play, he was very good and probably would have been a first-round draft pick had he not gotten injured.

Later in the draft, the Chiefs find another tackle prospect, but this is one they’d need to be a little more patient with. Jaylon Moore played left tackle for a smaller D-1 school but he’d be an intriguing player to keep an eye on in the coming years.
