KC Chiefs Mock Draft 5.0

Round 6: Pick 181 – Josh Ross, LB (Michigan)

. Linebacker. Wolverines . Josh Ross. 181. player. 811

It’d be nice to see the Chiefs land a linebacker earlier in the draft but the options just weren’t there whenever KC was on the clock. What transpires is that they don’t take one until the sixth round, but grab Josh Ross out of Michigan, who would simply be a depth piece.

The Chiefs have struggled to find a good linebacker since Derrick Johnson was in town and while there’s potential with Willie Gay, he was injured near the end of the 2020 season. He and Anthony Hitchens will be the two main options after Damien Wilson signed with the Jaguars in free agency.

Ross isn’t going to be someone who starts or sees the field much, at least not as a rookie. This would truly be a depth selection with the hope of Ross becoming a more important player down the road. He had 53 tackles last year while also recording one sack and an interception as well.

Selecting Ross wouldn’t be an exciting pick for Chiefs Kingdom, but it’d give the team depth at a position that desperately needs it.
