KC Chiefs Mock Draft 5.0

Round 4: Pick 144 – Dazz Newsome, WR (North Carolina)

player. 838. . Wide Receiver. Tar Heels . Dazz Newsome. 144

Another position the Chiefs have been needing to address, but haven’t had the opportunity to do so is at wide receiver. They wait until the fourth round to find help at the position and are able to select North Carolina slot receiver, Dazz Newsome.

Newsome was terrific for the Tar Heels and got better every year. In 2019, he had 1,018 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, which are career highs for him. Obviously, the 2020 season was shorter, so Newsome couldn’t top those numbers, but he was still very good, totaling 684 yards and six trips into the end zone.

The Chiefs have Tyreek Hill at wide receiver and then a bunch of WR3/4/5 options. No one really stands out as a clear WR2 and Newsome could be that guy. Per his draft profile from The Draft Network,

"Newsome is a good route-runner with excellent separation quickness, has terrific hands, outstanding ball skills, and is a fearless competitor. He’s excellent at creating yards after the catch and is truly a threat to all levels of the field."

Kansas City needs more weapons for Patrick Mahomes, and Newsome would be up for the task of playing with the NFL’s best quarterback.
