The KC Chiefs have a late first-round pick but get a downright steal with the 31st pick in my latest 2021 NFL Mock Draft.

A large majority of mock drafts floating around have the Kansas City Chiefs locked into taking an offensive lineman of some type with their first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. While that very well could happen, you never know how the board is going to fall come draft night.

In most of my mock drafts this year, I’ve had the Chiefs going with an offensive lineman in round one, but in my fifth of the offseason, the board fell a very different way. I used The Draft Network’s mock draft simulator and had a surprising name still available with the 31st pick.

If this was how the first round played out, Chiefs fans would be very happy. Let’s get to the picks!

KC Chiefs Mock Draft 5.0

Round 1: Pick 31 – Kwity Paye, EDGE (Michigan)

811. . EDGE. Wolverines . Kwity Paye. 31. player

This would be a shock if it actually occurred. I was floored that the disrupting EDGE rusher from Michigan was available for the taking here.

Kwity Paye is, in most cases, a top 10 draft pick, and the chances of him falling to the end of the first round seem unfathomable. That being said, the board fell this way on The Draft Network’s simulator and I didn’t hesitate as the Chiefs’ GM to scoop Paye up and make him a Chief.

Paye didn’t get to shine as bright this past season due to Michigan only playing in four games, but he still showed up, finishing the short season with 16 tackles (four for loss) and two sacks. The previous year saw Paye total 50 tackles (12.5 for loss) and 6.5 sacks through 12 games.

This guy is a talented player and as the video notes below, he’s able to disrupt opposing offenses and make life difficult for them. The Chiefs haven’t been able to have a shot at a player like Paye in quite some time due to always having a late first-round pick (not complaining by any means) so if he did manage to drop this far, the Chiefs would be idiots not to draft him.
