KC Chiefs: Drafting Kyle Pitts would be unfair to other teams
The KC Chiefs hold the No. 31 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and there’s almost zero chance of them landing Kyle Pitts. What if they happened to trade up to get him though?
Let’s get this out of the way before we dive into the meat of the article — The Kansas City Chiefs have no shot at drafting Kyle Pitts if they stay put at No. 31. The only way they’d land Pitts is by trading into the top 10 of the draft and that’s more than likely not happening due to the team having other needs to fill.
Suppose, however, that the Chiefs did decide to move up to the fifth overall pick (or whatever spot it’d take to land Pitts) and drafted the electric Florida tight end. This offense would be a heck of a lot scarier, that’s for sure.
Pitts had himself a final season in Gainesville, taking 12 trips into the end zone while catching 43 balls for 770 yards. The dude is a freak of nature and while the Chiefs don’t really have a strong need for another starting tight end, picturing him in this Chiefs offense is fun to think about, even if there’s virtually no chance of it happening.
Pitts is massive, standing at 6’6″ and 246 pounds. Pairing him with Travis Kelce, who is the best tight end in all of football, would really be unfair to the defenses forced to slow down the Chiefs.
If the KC Chiefs wanted to terrify defenses even more, trading up to draft Kyle Pitts would do the trick.
Again, I know there’s little to no chance of this happening. The Chiefs have other areas on the team to address (offensive tackle, linebacker, wide receiver, to name a few), and trading up into the top five of the draft wouldn’t be a smart business move for them, especially when they already have a very good tight end on their roster.
But, as far as how much more explosive this offense would become with Pitts, it’s certainly a fun scenario to think about. How would defenders guard Kelce, Pitts, and Tyreek Hill? It’d be really tough to game plan against this team with Pitts joining the party.
The Chiefs rarely have a chance at getting Pitts-like players due to always drafting at the end of the first round (don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining) but he’d thrive the most in Kansas City with the league’s best quarterback. This match made in heaven won’t happen, but we can all dream, right?
