KC Royals News: Adalberto Mondesi placed on Injured List
KC Royals news surrounds the team placing Adalberto Mondesi on the injured List one day before Opening Day.
In a frustrating turn of events, shortstop Adalberto Mondesi won’t be out on the field on Opening Day for the Kansas City Royals, as the team has placed him on the Injured List to start the year. Nicky Lopez has been recalled to fill Mondesi’s spot on the roster.
After making a statement by demoting Lopez over the weekend, he’s back with the club to likely play shortstop in place of Mondesi, though Hanser Alberto is also an option to fill the position while Mondesi is unavailable.
According to Anne Rogers of MLB.com, Mondesi has a right oblique strain and is on the 10-day IL.

This really is a huge gut punch for the Royals. There’s been so much excitement surrounding this team and Mondesi’s injury — while not the end of the world by any means — eliminates some of the excitement. One of the biggest issues with Mondesi throughout his time in the majors has been battling injuries
The Royals can’t dwell on this news for long. It’s important for them to begin the season red hot, as they have one of the toughest divisions in the league to compete with. Not having Mondesi, who likely would have been their No. 3 hitter in the lineup, definitely hurts this offense, but keep in mind that he got off to a really slow start a year ago and the team didn’t meltdown without his production.
Hopefully, Mondesi is able to return soon and contribute to what should be a fun Royals team.
