Would the KC Chiefs trade up for an offensive tackle? They do just that in Pro Football Network’s recent mock draft.

Everyone has grown accustomed to hearing that the Kansas City Chiefs desperately need an offensive tackle and that they’ll likely find their next left tackle in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Matthew Valdovinos of Pro Football Network once again linked the Chiefs to an offensive lineman in his latest mock draft but had them trading up to land one. While the team has frequently been linked to Liam Eichenberg of Notre Dame, Valdovinos had them going in a different direction, selecting Teven Jenkins of Oklahoma State with the No. 29 pick.

"The Chiefs are desperate for offensive tackle talent and depth. Teven Jenkins provides both. A smooth pass set with elite play strength, Jenkins’ film has enough pancakes to be considered an IHOP. Does he move to the left side, or does 2020 NFL Draft pick Lucas Niang swap to the opposite side?"

Out of all of the mock drafts I’ve seen floating around out there, this is one that actually seems pretty realistic. Some might say it’s more likely that the Chiefs trade down, but I don’t know if that’s how they’ll operate. Left tackle can’t be a liability with Patrick Mahomes under center, so the Chiefs are better off trading up to find a good option for the position.

Jenkins is an intriguing prospect in that he can be a future starter at either tackle or guard. The Chiefs would obviously be using him as a tackle and while he mostly has played right tackle, he did see time at left tackle during his time in Stillwater.

The KC Chiefs might find themselves in a situation where they have to trade up if they want a quality tackle.

With so many teams needing tackles, landing one at pick No. 31 seems unlikely. The Chiefs probably will have to trade up if they want one of the big names in the draft. Moving up two spots to land Jenkins would be a good move and KC would only give up their first-rounder this year and then a 2022 third-rounder in the process.

As of now, the left tackle for the 2021 season is not on the Chiefs’ roster, so if they drafted Jenkins to be the guy, he’d be the left tackle for 2021 and beyond. This seems like a realistic move for the Chiefs, but what do you all think?
