KC Chiefs fans are used to seeing Liam Eichenberg attached to them in mock drafts. The latest to do so is Mel Kiper Jr., who connected the two in his third mock draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs need a left tackle and that’s obvious to anyone who watched the Super Bowl. After releasing Eric Fisher over the offseason, the Chiefs need a left tackle even more so now (though Fisher wasn’t going to play much, if at all, in 2021).

Mel Kiper has continued to link the Chiefs to offensive tackles throughout draft season and his latest mock draft (must have an ESPN+ subscription to read) has the Chiefs tied to Notre Dame tackle, Liam Eichenberg.

I wrote about Eichenberg the other day and how the Chiefs being able to land him with the 31st pick would be a dream come true. With so many teams needing offensive tackles this year, it just doesn’t feel realistic that Eichenberg will be available late in the first round.

The likeliest scenario is that maybe he’s still on the board in the 20s and the Chiefs find themselves in a position where they’re forced to trade up if they really want him. We’ve seen them be aggressive in the first round before, but trading up several spots for a left tackle probably won’t be as popular as trading up for a franchise quarterback.

Liam Eichenberg to the KC Chiefs makes a lot of sense, but will he be on the board at pick No. 31?

With the Chiefs still not having addressed their left tackle position, the narrative of them taking one with their first-round pick continues. The Chiefs can’t enter the 2021 season with a nobody at left tackle, as the future of their franchise depends on it. If protecting Patrick Mahomes is a top priority this offseason — and it should be — the Chiefs need to do whatever they can to draft either Eichenberg or even one of the top tackle prospects.

Personally, I’d love to see Liam Eichenberg land with the Kansas City Chiefs. This guy could be the left tackle of the future for a team in desperate need of one, but while drafting him seems like an easy fix, it’ll be shocking if he does indeed slip to the end of the first round.

What do you think, Chiefs fans? Do you think the team has a shot at drafting Liam Eichenberg or do you think he’ll be off the board long before the Chiefs are on the clock?
