KC Chiefs continue to revamp o-line with first-round pick in 2021 NFL Mock Draft
KC Chiefs Mock Draft 4.0
Round 4: Pick 144 – Dez Fitzpatrick, WR (Louisville)
The Chiefs can afford to wait until Day 3 to draft a wide receiver because of how deep this year’s class is at the position. This is saying something too, as the Chiefs desperately need help at wide receiver, as they’ll be losing Sammy Watkins and Demarcus Robinson in free agency (well, at least they should lose both of those guys, as neither is worth re-signing).
The hope is that the Chiefs will still be able to land a wide receiver in free agency and that’d be key to picking Dez Fitzpatrick because this isn’t a guy who’s going to compete for a WR2 spot. If KC can’t lock down a free agent, then Mecole Hardman is likely the WR2 entering the 2021 season.
This isn’t a knock on Fitzpatrick though. The kid can play. He had 43 receptions for 833 yards as a senior for the Cardinals, which was a career-high in yardage for him. The most touchdowns he tallied in a single season were nine, which he had as a freshman in 2017 (Lamar Jackson was his quarterback).
With the quarterback play being wishy-washy after Jackson’s departure, Fitzpatrick’s numbers declined, but he was a big red zone threat that year and could be in Kansas City as well.
Steady is a word that is thrown around a lot when it comes to Fitzpatrick’s career at Louisville and while the Chiefs tend to like flashy receivers, having someone who can get at least 600 yards and three to six touchdowns every season would be a welcomed addition to this offense.
