KC Chiefs continue to revamp o-line with first-round pick in 2021 NFL Mock Draft
The KC Chiefs need offensive line help and they address the position in my latest 2021 NFL Mock Draft.
As we inch closer to the 2021 NFL Draft, the biggest storyline with the Kansas City Chiefs is their offensive line. We all saw it get demolished in Super Bowl LV and since then, the Chiefs have decided to tear it all down and rebuild it.
First, the team parted ways with Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz, their book ends on the line over the past half-decade and signed Joe Thuney and Kyle Long to place in the interior part of the line. We’ve seen Brett Veach tear things down and completely start anew before, as he did this very same thing with the defense two years ago and that turned out pretty well.
With that said, I won’t leave you all in suspense. I went with an offensive tackle for my first-round pick as the Chiefs’ GM in my latest mock draft. For anyone wanting to do their own mock draft, The Draft Network has a mock draft simulator that allows you to be the boss and add who you want to the Chiefs’ roster.
So, without further ado, let’s dive into my fourth mock draft of the season!
KC Chiefs Mock Draft 4.0
Round 1: Pick 31 – Jalen Mayfield, OT (Michigan)
The Chiefs need an offensive tackle and Jalen Mayfield is still on the board when they pick at No. 31, so this was a really easy decision for me. Mayfield is a versatile lineman who can play either tackle spot, but who Kansas City would likely slot in at left tackle given their need at the position.
Despite Mayfield playing right tackle this past season, The Draft Network is high on what he could bring to the table for whatever team drafts him.
"I think Mayfield is a high-level right tackle prospect who could be trained to switch sides and play on the left or, alternatively, be left to continue to grow on the right side. His athletic profile and build wouldn’t hinder him from a transition to guard either—in case his small sample size of strong play isn’t sustainable and he struggles at the NFL level on the outside. Given his physical skills and the multiple avenues to get on the field, I’m betting Mayfield ends up a big hit in the pros."
The biggest worry with Mayfield is that he only played in two games this season for Michigan and 15 total. Not having a ton of experience at the collegiate level could be a concern, but Mayfield has what it takes to be a top talent in the NFL and the Chiefs desperately need someone with his versatility.
If Mayfield is available when the Chiefs are on the clock, this would be a home run pick for KC.
