Chiefs News: Sammy Watkins drawing interest from other teams
Chiefs news consists of how Sammy Watkins is going on a few visits this week to find his new team.
It seemed like a general consensus that Sammy Watkins wouldn’t be returning to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021 and now that he’s starting his free-agent tours, that seems even more to be the case.
According to Adam Schefter, Watkins is scheduled to visit the Colts and Ravens this week while also drumming up interest from the Titans and Texans. All four of these teams are in the AFC, which doesn’t necessarily indicate anything, but it is a bit of an interesting tidbit that Watkins would remain in the same conference as the Chiefs.
It’s not surprising that the Chiefs are okay with moving on from Watkins, as he didn’t deliver in the regular season. He was either injured or simply just ineffective. If it weren’t for his playoff performances in the 2018 and 2019 seasons, the contract would easily go down as one of the worst the Chiefs ever had on the books.

Watkins could do well with any of these teams but the big question to ponder before any team signs him — Can he stay healthy? The Chiefs banked on yes and they wound up being mostly wrong, as Watkins missed 14 regular-season games during three seasons in Kansas City.
At this point of his career, Watkins can’t be relied on as a WR1 or even a WR2 due to his injury history. The Ravens desperately need another wide receiver and that’s why I wouldn’t be shocked to see him land there. Plus, maybe they think that’ll give them a leg up over a team they haven’t been able to beat in several years.
Chiefs fans are grateful for Sammy Watkins, especially in the postseason, but it won’t be hard watching him sign with another team. This is the best situation for both sides.
