Rodney Hudson is a free agent and KC Chiefs fans want him back with the team who drafted him.

The Raiders made the odd decision to release starting center Rodney Hudson and naturally, Kansas City Chiefs fans are interested in signing Hudson. For those who might be new to Chiefs Kingdom, Hudson played for Kansas City for four years after the team spent a second-round pick on him in 2011.

After showing he was one of the best centers in football, Hudson took his talents to the Raiders where he continued to shine as a starting center. He spent six years with the silver and black and now he’s back on the market.

Chiefs fans were bummed that Hudson left them to go play in Oakland, but the Raiders had a lot of money that offseason while Kansas City didn’t. It made sense for Hudson to chase the money at that point in his career.

Now, however, he should look to chase a ring and the best way to do that is with the Kansas City Chiefs, who happen to need a starting center. Austin Reiter probably isn’t returning, so going after Hudson would shore up a position of need for sure.

The Chiefs already signed Joe Thuney to man their left guard spot on the o-line, but could you imagine how much better this group would be with both Thuney and Hudson? Patrick Mahomes would be feeling a lot more confident whenever the ball was snapped to him.

As soon as the news of Hudson’s release hit the news cycle, Chiefs fans immediately took to social media begging their team to sign the durable center. My two favorite tweets to emerge so far are from former Chiefs reporter BJ Kissel and FanSided’s Matt Verderame.

Yes, bringing in both Hudson and Trent Williams would be AWESOME, but there’s no way the Chiefs could afford to do this while also paying Patrick Mahomes, Chris Jones, Frank Clark, and Travis Kelce their contracts and trying to extend Tyrann Mathieu. I know Brett Veach is a wizard, but Williams is going to cost at least $20 million a year.

Hudson, on the other hand, probably is a realistic acquisition. He’ll turn 32 years old in July and knows he’s on the final stretch of his career. Would that be enough for him to turn down more money and sign with the Super Bowl favorite?

It’d sure be fun, wouldn’t it, Chiefs fans?
