No one should be more thrilled about the Chiefs signing Joe Thuney than Patrick Mahomes, who took a beating in Super Bowl LV.

The Kansas City Chiefs opened up the free agency tampering period by agreeing to terms on a five-year deal worth $80 million with offensive guard Joe Thuney. This is a huge move by the Chiefs and naturally, Patrick Mahomes is going to be stoked about the acquisition.

Mahomes couldn’t contain his excitement on Twitter when the news broke, quote tweeting Adam Schefter’s tweet about the signing.

Those three emojis are clearly the sign of an ecstatic quarterback who is eager to have one of the best offensive guards in the league blocking for him. Not having a good offensive line in the Super Bowl is one of the biggest reasons why the Chiefs were embarrassed in that game and the team hopefully learned their lesson from that butt whooping.

Patrick Mahomes can’t wait to have Joe Thuney upfront protecting him.

Thuney has played left guard throughout most of his career but spent time at tackle last year in New England. He’s played in three Super Bowls and has won two, so he knows what the vibe is like in a Super Bowl and what to expect in the biggest game of the season.

Mahomes is the best quarterback in all of football and not providing him with ample protection would have been disastrous on the Chiefs’ end. That’s why this move needed to be done and maybe the Chiefs will decide Thuney isn’t enough. This contract is a pricey one, so it’s more likely that they turn to the draft to address the rest of the o-line issues, but if you had told Chiefs fans they’d be getting Thuney prior to free agency, they’d have been elated.

And nobody is more elated than Patrick Mahomes, who hopefully will be hit a lot less with the signing of Joe Thuney.

What an awesome start to free agency for Kansas City!
