Would Zaven Collins make sense for the KC Chiefs in the 2021 NFL Draft? The latest mock draft from NFL Spin Zone has the two teaming up.

Linebacker has been a position of weakness for the Kansas City Chiefs for quite some time, so it’s time to do something about that. They drafted Willie Gay last year, but at this point, adding another linebacker in an early-round would be a smart move for the Chiefs.

Randy Gurzi has the Chiefs selecting linebacker Zaven Collins his recent NFL Spin Zone mock draft. Gurzi notes that the Chiefs couldn’t stop the Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV and were there a few more minutes, they’d probably have lost to the Browns in the Divisional Round due to not being able to stop the run.

Here is Gurzi’s explanation as to why he had KC taking Collins with the No. 31 overall pick,

"That’s why they use their first-round pick in this mock on Tulsa linebacker Zaven Collins. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 260-pounds, Collins is a monster on defense who can help in a myriad of ways. He’s adept at covering backs and tight ends in pass coverage and can even rush the passer when asked.Where he will really help, however, is in his toughness as a tackler. Collins knows how to get after the ball carrier and his 260-pound frame can give opposing running backs fits — especially when he moves like a man 30-pounds lighter than he is."

Zaven Collins would help the KC Chiefs’ defense tremendously.

The Tulsa linebacker is a tackling machine and that’s what jumps out the most about him. It’s also something the Chiefs need with their next linebacker. This defense has been suspect as tackling, so adding someone who had 236 total tackles in three seasons would be a dream come true.

Collins also notched 7.5 sacks and had five interceptions during his three seasons with Tulsa. He’s someone who flies around the field and could hopefully be that sideline-to-sideline linebacker that the Chiefs have been searching for since Derrick Johnson was let go.

This would be a good pick for the Chiefs late in the first round. Collins fills a position of need and could be the leading tackler on this defense. Stopping the run has been a problem for KC, but continuing to add good tacklers will hopefully solve that problem.
