KC Chiefs could replace Watkins with…

Allen Robinson

Let’s start with the biggest name on the block, Allen Robinson, who would make this team unbeatable as long as the offensive line keeps Patrick Mahomes upright. With Robinson’s ability to get open, make every catch possible, and be a dominant No. 1 receiver, the Chiefs should at least keep tabs on him in free agency.

The idea of this sounds awesome, but in practice, this would not be a great move as Robinson is set to make a lot of money. He is projected to get a four-year deal worth $80 million, which could ruin the KC Chiefs cap situation down the line. It depends on what they do to cut the cap this offseason.

While I would love for this to happen, there are multiple cheaper options on the market available.

Curtis Samuel

Another receiver who is set to make more money this offseason is Curtis Samuel, as he is only 25 and coming off a good stint with the Carolina Panthers. If the Chiefs signed Samuel, they would get a receiver who would add to the speed and versatility of the offense, as he can play both receiver and running back well.

Samuel is projected to make $12.4 million over four years, similar to Stefon Diggs’s contract. This would be a cheaper deal than Robinson but it would still be a tough cap situation for the Chiefs. His fit in the offense would probably be a slot receiver who would get open quickly and makes plays after the catch.

Corey Davis

An interesting choice for Kansas City when it comes to replacing Watkins would be to get the younger version of him in Corey Davis. The former Central Michigan product is coming off his best statistical season with the Tennesee Titans and is set to make some money, but not as much as the previous two receivers. He is set to get a contract around the nine million dollar range for four years.

There are a couple of concerns in Davis’s game as he has had problems with drops in his career, but outside of that, he is a solid receiver who is still only 26 years old. If the Chiefs really want to address the receiver position behind Tyreek Hill, if they let Watkins go, this should be target No. 1 if they do not like what is in the draft.
