As the KC Chiefs head into the offseason, they have a decision to make regarding Sammy Watkins. Re-sign or let him test the waters of free agency?

I am in the boat of not bringing Sammy Watkins back in 2021, because of his missed time due to injuries over the years. While Watkins has been a vital piece of this offense for the time he has been here, it is time for the Kansas City Chiefs to move on from the former No. 4 overall pick.

The Chiefs have a plethora of options to choose from when it comes to wide receivers, whether it is in the draft, free agency, or even internally.  There are two stigmas to this is the fact that the new receiver replacing Watkins needs to be a true X receiver, which means they are typically bigger and stronger but are also usually better route runners, i.e someone like Davante Adams or Mike Evans or just get someone who plays like Watkins.

If the Chiefs do get an X receiver it would be their first one since the Dwayne Bowe era. Imagine what this offense would be like if the Chiefs had a Dwayne Bowe-like receiver in the mix. The closest X the Chiefs have had since then is Watkins, so one of their priorities needs to be getting one this offseason.

For this list, I am going to split it into a couple of pieces, one for draft picks, two for free agents, and three internal options. With this draft being very deep at wide receiver there will be a lot more written on them in this article.

Also if you need some top-quality draft coverage check out Arrowhead Report’s 100in100 by Jordan Foote, this is also where I got most of my info on the draft picks, it has some great stuff from value picks to priority picks.

Now onto the good stuff, we start with the draft picks that could be made to replace Watkins.
