The KC Chiefs should keep an eye on these safeties during free agency.

While the Kansas City Chiefs will still have both Tyrann Mathieu and Juan Thornhill for the 2021 season, they could potentially lose Daniel Sorensen to free agency. That means the Chiefs need to find another safety through either free agency or the draft to replace Sorensen.

Hopefully, they can find a better option on the free-agent market, but with limited funds to land a big-time free agent, the Chiefs could have to find more of a bargain option at the safety position.

Here are four options for the team to consider in free agency this year.

Safeties for KC Chiefs to Target: Daniel Sorensen

Let’s just start with Sorensen since I already discussed him. The best reason to sign him is that he’s spent the entirety of his seven-year career with the Chiefs and is familiar with the defense as a result. He’d also likely be an affordable option considering he hasn’t been a top-tier safety and he’ll be in his age 31 season in 2021.

Reasons not to sign Sorensen are that his production on the field isn’t always where fans want it to be. He struggles in coverage more often than not and can’t cover tight ends very well at all.

That being said, Sorensen is a good special teams player and has made some really big plays for the Chiefs during his seven-year career. He’d probably be willing to take less money to stay with the team he won a Super Bowl with too, which is a big plus for the Chiefs this offseason.
