KC Chiefs to move on from – Chad Henne (Quarterback)

Have the Chiefs reached the point where they are no longer in the business of expensive veteran quarterbacks as backups? I believe so.

I like Chad Henne and the team moving on from him is more difficult to imagine after his helping win the divisional round playoff game against the Cleveland Browns. That gutsy scramble he had on third-and-long will always be a moment that Chiefs fans cherish. However, while we appreciate his contributions, I’m not sure he fits anymore.

His departure would save the Chiefs $1.25 million against the cap, and while that’s not an overly large number, simply moving on from the previously mentioned Williams and Henne, almost pays for the Chiefs 2021 draft class.

And perhaps based on his performance, could the Chiefs perhaps find a trade partner, someone willing to surrender a late-round draft pick for the veteran backup signal-caller?

Again, it’s time for the Chiefs to start the process of what other teams have done, finding young quarterbacks to groom to prepare to step in (in the event the starters talents evaporate) or to trade-off as the Packers did for years under Brett Favre or what the Eagles did near the end of the Andy Reid regime.
