KC CHIEFS 2018 NFL DRAFT

  • 2(46) Breeland Speaks
  • 3(75) Derrick Nnadi
  • 3(100) Dorian O’Daniel
  • 4(124) Armani Watts
  • 6(196) Tremon Smith
  • 6(198) Kahlil McKenzie

The star of this draft class is obviously Derrick Nnadi, if almost by default, as only Nnadi is a starter, and O’Daniel and Watts are barely on the roster. The Speaks pick was baffling at the time and continues to get worse.

The draft’s biggest star perhaps is Cowboys’ undrafted rookie Charvarius Ward, who was traded to the Chiefs at the end of training camp. Keep this transaction in mind as well.

During that 2018 draft, the Chiefs traded up three times, initially for Breeland Speaks — who is barely in the NFL — Nnadi, and finally for Kahlil McKenzie. McKenzie was a college defensive tackle the Chiefs thought enough of to make an offensive guard. Still on the board was Bradley Bozeman, a starting interior lineman at Alabama now starting for the Baltimore Ravens.

The pick the Chiefs traded to the Cincinnati Bengals turned into safety Jessie Bates, who earned second-team All-Pro this past season and was a first-team All-Rookie team in 2018.
