These five members of the Kansas City Chiefs really came out of nowhere in 2020!

After covering the most disappointing Kansas City Chiefs from the 2020 season, it’s only fair now to look at the most surprising players. This will be a list of pleasant surprises ranging from rookies to late-round draft picks to journeymen who made an impact this past season.

While these guys aren’t stars by any means, seeing flashes from them when it wasn’t expected is a great sign of what’s to come. So, let’s get to the most surprising Chiefs from last season!

Most Surprising Kansas City Chiefs – No. 5: Mike Danna

When the Chiefs spent their fifth-round (and what we thought was their final) pick of the 2020 NFL Draft on Mike Danna, fans were a little puzzled. Here was a guy who had split his collegiate career between Central Michigan and Michigan and really wasn’t a big name. The consensus seemed to be that he could have been acquired via the undrafted free agent market.

Brett Veach didn’t want to risk it though, taking him in round five. It was a pleasant surprise when Danna didn’t only play in 2020 but contributed on defense!

Danna appeared in 16 total games this season and started in Week 17 against the Chargers. He finished his rookie campaign with 25 tackles, six quarterback hits, and 2.5 sacks, which is a heck of a lot more production than what Chiefs Kingdom was expecting out of the fifth-rounder from Michigan.

The hope is that Danna can continue to improve and become an even bigger contributor on defense. For now, however, him contributing at all as a rookie was very good news for the Chiefs.
