KC Chiefs Mock Draft 1.0

Round 5: Pick 176 – Shaka Toney, EDGE (Penn State)

. EDGE. Nittany Lions . Shaka Toney. 176. player. 806

The Chiefs have three picks between 174-180 and pick No. 176 would be their second selection in that group. It might seem strange to have them go with another EDGE just two picks removed from taking one, but did you see the Chiefs’ pass rush this season? Exactly.

Shaka Toney finished the 2020 season with 31 tackles (7.5 for loss) and five sacks and as a whole, totaled 111 tackles and 20 sacks in his four seasons with Penn State. He’s probably never going to be a starter, but instead could serve as a rotational defender who comes in and hopefully makes the most of his snaps.

Toney has never been the premier pass rusher during his time at Penn State and is under looked, but he’d be a nice fit for what the Chiefs are looking for. Not pressuring Tom Brady enough in the Super Bowl was their downfall, so pass rush has to be a point of emphasis in 2021 and Toney hopefully could provide that.

Stacking up one edge defenders late could be an interesting move, but if it pans out, the pass rush will be better because of it.
