It’s officially time to transition to free agency. Who should the KC Chiefs look to add at quarterback?

Obviously, the Kansas City Chiefs have their starting quarterback and Patrick Mahomes will be the face of the franchise for the next decade at least.

With that said, however, the Chiefs need to make sure he has a reliable backup behind him in case of injuries. We’ve seen that Mahomes does get injured and when that happens, having a decent backup could be a season-saving moment (as we saw in 2019 with Matt Moore).

Chad Henne is still under contract for 2021, but there is a potential out in his contract. This means the Chiefs might not have Henne as their backup and could opt to go in another direction, especially if they’re looking to cut payroll. If they do, here are some names that are out there:

If the Chiefs want to save money, perhaps they could get a veteran backup like Mike Glennon for less money. Glennon wouldn’t be someone that would excite the fan base, but he has plenty of experience as an NFL quarterback.

Glennon spent this past season with the one-win Jaguars and saw a significant amount of playing time with them. He did what he could with not a lot of talent surrounding him, throwing for 1,072 yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions in five starts.

A former third-round pick in 2013, Glennon has been a journeyman in the league, spending the last four years with four different teams. If he has a fifth different team in 2021, perhaps the Chiefs would be interested in a bargain of a price.
