KC Chiefs Senior Bowl Standouts: Baron Browning, LB (Ohio State)

Every year analysts and draft followers find names that become their favorites, players who they hope end up on their team. This year, for me, it’s Ohio State linebacker, Baron Browning.

With the size of a middle linebacker with speed and the ability to cover, I view the Buckeye product as an ideal pairing next to Willie Gay next season. The Chiefs could pair athletic linebackers next to each other as they work to rebuild a bit of their defense.

Browing offers versatility in that he displays an ability, in passing downs, to line up as an edge rusher and at 6’3″ and 241 pounds, Browning has the size of the middle linebacker. He attacks ball carriers and is a good, tough physical football player.

The biggest concern with Browning is simply, despite his great physical tools, it took him a while to truly get going.

The Chiefs could use help at linebacker, but I don’t know if they will want to grab one as early as it would take to get the Buckeye. I fully expect Browning to be off the board when the Chiefs pick in the second round, and by a good measure. If the Chiefs like him, he may very well have to be their first pick.
