KC Chiefs Senior Bowl Standouts: Cameron Sample, DL (Tulane)
The Chiefs enjoy spending draft picks on defensive linemen, and while I don’t know that it’s vital this season, I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see the Chiefs add to their front-line depth. A name I’m keeping an eye on is versatile Tulane defender Cameron Sample.
Sample is a bit of a tweener of sorts. At 6’3″ and 275 pounds, he isn’t big enough to line up inside as a tackle but not quite sure he’s a pass-rushing edge either. Regardless, at the Senior Bowl, he flashed an ability to get up the field and at least hold the edge while also making plays, and at times lined up inside in a pass-rushing defensive tackle technique.
For a team with entrenched starters, Sample is the type of versatile depth that could work well.

If Sample is still on the board near the end of round four, that’s when I would start to look and think about him for the Chiefs. Again, I don’t know that the Chiefs need to invest much in the defensive line considering they came away last year with two rookie defensive linemen, but, if they are going to draft a defensive lineman, someone like Sample who offers versatility and depth, will likely be a name to watch.
