Chiefs news surrounds Bucs tight end Rob Gronkowski praising KC Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce ahead of Super Bowl LV.

When Travis Kelce was first making a name for himself with the Kansas City Chiefs, he was given the nickname “Mini Gronk” because of how similar the two were on the field. Fast forward to the year 2021 and Kelce is without a doubt the best tight end in the league.

The two tight ends are in the Super Bowl this year and while they won’t be directly competing on the gridiron, of course, this is going to be a topic of conversation. Gronk vs Mini Gronk – Who was better in their prime?

Gronkowski, when asked about Kelce, had this to say,

Kelce has surpassed Gronkowski in recent years, but Gronk did retire after the 2018 season. He came back in 2020 to join Tom Brady in Tampa Bay and had 623 yards along with seven touchdowns. His best game of the season actually came against the Chiefs.

Kelce had not only the best numbers amongst tight ends but was second in TOTAL receiving yards this past season. The only player to have more receiving yards than him was Stefon Diggs of the Bills, who had 1,535 yards while Kelce had 1,416 yards.

Gronkowski complimenting Kelce is to be expected because how can you deny how talented he is? He really has transitioned the tight end position, as he’s shown that tight ends can be No. 1 in targets and end up in the top five in the league in receiving yards. He’s definitely someone to game plan around.

With that last link, the one big thing that Bucs fans can cling to ahead of Super Bowl LV is that Patrick Mahomes’ one loss in the playoffs is to Brady when he was a Patriot. That’s not something that concerns me honestly because the Chiefs were an offsides call away from going to the Super Bowl that year.

Gronk and Kelce have had a fun little rivalry at the tight end position and Kelce surpassed Gronk for a variety of reasons. Gronk was injured a lot and ended up retiring, so Kelce was easily the best tight end in the league. He has yet another chance to show why he’s the greatest tight end in the league in front of the entire country on Sunday.
