The KC Chiefs get themselves an offensive lineman in the most recent mock draft from CBS Sports.

It’s no secret that the Kansas City Chiefs have seen their fair share of injuries along the offensive line this year. Both tackles were injured at different points in the season while two other members of the o-line opted out prior to the season even kicking off. That’s made it tough for the Chiefs, but they’ve persevered along the o-line, as they often do under Andy Reid and Brett Veach.

It won’t be shocking, even with Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Lucas Niang returning for 2021, if the Chiefs decide to select an offensive lineman with their first-round pick. That’s exactly what Josh Edwards of CBS Sports had them doing in his most recent mock draft, as he linked the Chiefs to Alabama offensive lineman Deonte Brown at pick No. 32.

"Kansas City has not invested in their interior offensive line so they buck the trend with Deonte Brown at the end of the first round."

What the Chiefs would be getting with Brown is a player who only knows the guard position, but has been dominant at it. We all know that Alabama always has one of the – if not the – best offensive lines in all of college football and Brown has continued to be a part of that tradition. He’s huge, weighing in at 364 pounds.

He’s a force when it comes to the run game, which would hopefully help the Chiefs jumpstart what’s been a less than stellar rushing attack in recent years. He’s also an efficient pass protector, which is crucial to have with Patrick Mahomes under center.

The Chiefs haven’t taken an offensive lineman in the first round since 2013 when they selected Eric Fisher with the No. 1 pick in a terrible draft class. They have two key players returning in 2021 after opting out, but Fisher could still be recovering from his injury, Mitchell Schwartz’s future is uncertain, and they’ll also lose Daniel Kilgore and Mike Remmers to free agency. This could lead them to lean toward taking an o-lineman in the first round.

If they do, Deonte Brown would be a great addition to the team and would be a really tough man to move out of the way if defenders want to get after Mahomes.
