Kansas City Chiefs 2021 New Year’s Resolutions – No. 2: Find Mahomes a viable backup

When the Chiefs won the Super Bowl in the 2019 season, a large reason as to why was because Matt Moore stepped in for two starts and managed to win one of them. Had KC lost that game, they wouldn’t have ended up as the No. 2 seed, and that Super Bowl title might not have happened.

With Chad Henne nearing the end of his contract, the Chiefs are now going to find themselves in a situation where it’ll make more sense to draft a quarterback than to sign one. This way they can get one for pennies compared to paying big money to someone like Henne, Moore, or whoever else is out there.

Fans will know not to get attached to whoever the next backup is because Patrick Mahomes will be the starter for the next decade and hopefully longer. Having a viable backup is very important though and saved KC’s season in 2019. It needs to be a big priority this offseason.

Kansas City Chiefs 2021 New Year’s Resolutions – No. 1: Run It Back

The easiest resolution the Chiefs have for 2021 is to run it back and win a second straight Super Bowl title. The theme of this season has been “Run It Back” and as of now, the boys are in a prime position to do so.

It won’t be that easy, of course, as the Bills remind me a lot of where the Chiefs were this time last year. If that matchup occurs, Buffalo could be the team to knock the champs off their throne and represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

The difference between the two, however, is that KC knows what it takes to get there. It won’t be enough just to get to a second consecutive Super Bowl. No, the Kansas City Chiefs need to win another title and get as many championships as they can in this current window because you never know when it could end.
