Good things for Kansas City Chiefs in 2020 – AFC Championship Game

I won’t lie — I was terrified about facing the Tennesee Titans in the AFC Championship Game. Prior to this game, the Titans had been a thorn in the Chiefs’ side and always found the most bizarre ways to beat Kansas City, including in the playoffs just two seasons prior (that Marcus Mariota pass to himself will forever haunt me).

You can imagine my horror when the Titans took a 17-7 lead in the first half and looked like they could be on their way to representing the AFC in the Super Bowl as a No. 6 seed. Fortunately, the Chiefs aren’t afraid to come back in big games and did so once again, leading 21-17 at halftime.

The biggest play from that game BY FAR was the 27-yard run Patrick Mahomes had that ended with him in the end zone right before halftime. When that run was happening, the watch party I was at (remember when we could safely have those?) was screaming at the TV for Mahomes to keep running, as if our shouting had any outcome of the game.

The second half saw the Chiefs get up 35-17 and while there was still some fear for those of us who had spent our childhoods watching this team cough up leads, this time felt different. Tennessee scored one more touchdown, but that was it. The Chiefs won the game and punched their ticket to the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years.
