Star Performances from Kansas City Chiefs – No. 2: Willie Gay

For the first time this season, second-round rookie linebacker Willie Gay makes the list of star performances! Gay hadn’t had much of an opportunity to prove himself this season, as the Chiefs continued to roll with Niemann, Anthony Hitchens, and Damien Wilson while letting Gay play periodically.

Hitchens and Wilson couldn’t play this week for different reasons, so Gay finally got a chance to play consistently and the end result was very good. Gay finished this game with nine total tackles, which led the team. One of those tackles was for lost yardage. Hopefully, this game showed Steve Spagnuolo that Gay is up to the task on defense.

Star Performances from Kansas City Chiefs – No. 1: Travis Kelce

No one else made sense in the No. 1 spot this week. Yes, Gay and Sneed both played incredibly well, and I do try my best to make these lists fair and not have offensive players at the top every week, but Travis Kelce had to be No. 1 after making history.

Not only is Kelce now the first-ever tight end to have multiple 100+ yard reception seasons, but he had yet another dominating game. Kelce hauled in seven catches for 98 yards and a touchdown, leading the team in targets, catches, and receiving yards. When Patrick Mahomes needs a big play, he’s always looking Kelce’s way and we’ve come to expect it every single time.
