The Kansas City Chiefs can clinch the No. 1 seed. Here’s how they can do it.

With just two games remaining in the 2020 regular season, the Kansas City Chiefs are currently holding onto the No. 1 seed in the AFC and hope they’re still in the top spot when the regular season finishes up. There are technically 27 ways for the Chiefs to clinch a No. 1 seed this week, but let’s get into the three easiest ones for the time being.

How Kansas City Chiefs can clinch No. 1 seed in Week 16 – Beat Atlanta

This is the easiest way for the defending champs to stake their claim in the AFC and ensure they won’t be hitting the road again until they’re heading to Tampa Bay for Super Bowl LV. If the Chiefs beat the Falcons on Sunday afternoon, the No. 1 seed is theirs. They can still afford to lose this week and earn the No. 1 seed so long as they beat the Chargers in Week 17, but let’s just get the W out of the win and clinch that top spot.

How Kansas City Chiefs can clinch No. 1 seed in Week 16 – Pittsburgh loses

Just two weeks ago, the Chiefs were looking up in the conference at the Pittsburgh Steelers, who were flat out refusing to lose. The Steelers rattled off wins in their first 11 games and now have imploded, losing each of their last three. It’s not like the Steelers have a cakewalk schedule moving forward either, as they’ll face the Colts this week and the Browns in Week 17.

Pittsburgh’s loss to the Bills last week gave Kansas City the top spot and after the Steelers lost to the Bengals on Monday, they relinquished the No. 2 seed to the Bills as well. Speaking of…

How Kansas City Chiefs can clinch No. 1 seed in Week 16 – Buffalo loses

Chiefs Kingdom has the Bills to thank for why they vaulted into the No. 1 seed last week, but now it’s time to root against them (well, only if the Chiefs lose on Sunday). The Bills losing to the Patriots on Monday night would clinch the No. 1 seed for the Chiefs, but after Buffalo won the AFC East for the first time since the Jim Kelly days, I highly doubt a loss to New England is coming on Monday.

Let’s look at some of the other scenarios just for kicks.

I’m not going to go through all of the other 24 scenarios, but some of them are pretty entertaining thoughts. The fourth “easiest” way for the Chiefs to clinch the one seed should KC lose on Sunday and both the Steelers and Bills win is for the Jets, Panthers, Saints, Buccaneers, Texans,  and one of the Raiders, Cardinals, Ravens, and Broncos to win. Relying on the Jets to win a game wouldn’t be fun, so let’s hope this scenario isn’t one that we’re having to hope for this weekend.

Hopefully, the Kansas City Chiefs get the victory on Sunday and can clinch the No. 1 seed in the easiest way possible.
