KC Chiefs: What we learned about the AFC West after Week 15

What did we learn about the Kansas City Chiefs?

Last, but not least, we come to the AFC West champion Kansas City Chiefs, who toppled the New Orleans Saints by a score of 32-29 in the Big Easy. It wasn’t the prettiest of games, but the Chiefs went down to New Orleans and played a convincing game against a Super Bowl contender.

The Chiefs run game got going in this one, rushing for 179 yards and a touchdown against an impressive Saints defense. The offensive line for Kansas City was not good, however, surrendering four sacks on Patrick Mahomes and allowing him to get hit another 11 times. The third-string right tackle was starting due to injuries to Mitchell Schwartz and Mike Remmers, but still — Not a good performance from the Chiefs o-line.

What we learned about the Chiefs in this game is that yes, they struggle to close out games, but they make the plays when they have to. That Mahomes touchdown to Mecole Hardman in the back of the end zone was a play that no other quarterback can make (maybe Aaron Rodgers can?) and the Chiefs needed those kinds of plays on Sunday because the Saints were playing Mahomes about as well as a defense can.

Next up: The Chiefs return home to Arrowhead for a matchup against the pesky Falcons. This game kicks off at noon central time.
