The KC Chiefs plan to bring in Tajae Sharpe to their practice squad.

The Kansas City Chiefs are adding weapons for their final three regular-season games and the postseason. The recent addition is Tajae Sharpe, most known for his days in Tennessee with the Titans, where he spent the first three years of his career.

Sharpe played in Tennessee before they really had any good weapons and was one of their best wide receivers during that time (honestly, he probably was their best). His best season was as a rookie in 2016 when he hauled in 41 catches for 522 yards and two touchdowns.

Sharpe spent this year in Minnesota and played in four games before getting released. He had three targets but recorded zero receptions.

The KC Chiefs don’t expect Tajae Sharpe to be a game-changer, but he’s depth at the wide receiver position.

Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce are obviously Patrick Mahomes’ go-to weapons and that isn’t changing barring something unfortunate occurring. The Chiefs also have Sammy Watkins, Mecole Hardman, and Demarcus Robinson at the wide receiver, but no one to this point has really stepped in and had a huge game. Sharpe isn’t going to do that, but he’s another piece this offense will have for the bigger games down the road.

This isn’t a move that’s really going to thread the needle for Chiefs fans. We’ve seen them bring in receivers late in the season before and then those players not amounting to much in a Chiefs uniform and it’s very possible that the same thing happens here with Sharpe. At the very least, he’s there if the Chiefs need him in case injuries pile up.

Maybe Sharpe does get into a game and impresses the staff. That could end up being big for this team, as they’ll need to replace both Watkins and Robinson this offseason. Maybe Sharpe does enough to earn a spot on the 2021 team.

This move isn’t the most exciting, but the KC Chiefs are kicking the tires on Sharpe and letting him hang out on their practice squad for the time being. Maybe this turns into something, maybe it doesn’t. For now, however, it’s a somewhat known name joining the frontrunner to win the Super Bowl.
