Drew Brees is starting against the KC Chiefs on Sunday and that makes this matchup way more fun.
Prior to this season, Kansas City Chiefs fans were excited for the Week 15 matchup pitting the winners of Super Bowl LIV against the winners of Super Bowl XLIV, the New Orleans Saints. A big reason as to why this matchup was such a highly-anticipated one was because both of these teams are good and both have tremendous quarterbacks.
Unfortunately, future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees was injured back in Week 10 and hasn’t returned since. He had 11 broken ribs and a collapsed lung from a hit he took in the win over the 49ers.
Brees was designated to return from practice, which is a step in the right direction for the Saints quarterback and he’s now announced as the starter for the Saints. The marquee matchup Chiefs fans were hoping for is back on!
Drew Brees will be the Saints’ starting QB Sunday vs. the Kansas City Chiefs, source tells ESPN. Saints believe he is fully healthy and doctors have cleared him to play.

This could be the final time the KC Chiefs get to square off against Drew Brees.
With the Chiefs and Saints being in different conferences, they only play each other every four years. It looked like they’d meet up in the Super Bowl two years ago as both had the No. 1 seed in their respective conferences, but neither team made it to the big game. That makes this matchup even more exciting, but it wouldn’t be the same without Brees.
Obviously, Chiefs fans want to win but it’d be so fun to see this team compete against Brees one last time. They’ve beaten him the last two times the Chiefs and Saints have played and to see one last battle against a surefire first-ballot Hall of Famer when he does decide his playing days are over would be the perfect ending to this team’s history against Brees.
Patrick Mahomes vs Drew Brees is a much better marquee matchup than that of Mahomes vs Taysom Hill. No disrespect to Hill, but he’s nowhere close to being the same kind of player that Brees is. Mahomes and Brees were both in the running for MVP two years ago with Mahomes ultimately winning it and this game would give us a chance to see them actually go head-to-head.
This should be a fun game no matter what, but it’ll definitely be a lot more intriguing now that Brees is taking the snaps for the Saints instead of Hill. It’ll be a battle regardless, as that Saints defense is really good.
Mahomes vs Brees on Sunday. Should be a fun one, folks!
