What did we learn about the KC Chiefs?

The Chiefs returned to Hard Rock Stadium for the first time since their Super Bowl LIV victory earlier this year and what ensued was a rather odd game. The Dolphins got off to a 10-0 start after Patrick Mahomes threw two interceptions in the first quarter and took a 30+ yard sack.

The Chiefs then took a 14-10 lead into the locker room at the half and from there, it looked like it’d be smooth-sailing to the finish line. The Chiefs were ahead 30-10, but once again, were unable to close out a game, something that is becoming a huge concern for this team.

Being up by 20 points in the NFL isn’t a sign to slow down, but that’s what the Chiefs did and once again, they found themselves in a nail-biter, as the Dolphins scored 14 unanswered points. Kansas City won 30-24 to move to 12-1 on the year and with their win, secured their fifth straight AFC West championship.

What we learned about the Chiefs is that this team is capable of turning the ball over, as Mahomes threw not one, not two, but THREE interceptions and Mecole Hardman fumbled the football as well. We didn’t learn that the Chiefs can’t close out games because we already knew that about them. This is the fifth straight game that they’ve failed to put things away despite having a lead. That’s not going to cut it in the playoffs.

Up next: The Chiefs will hit the road again for the fourth time in five weeks and will head down south to New Orleans for a date with the 10-3 Saints in the late window of games. That’s going to be a fun battle in the Big Easy.
