Kansas City Chiefs: 20 interconnected thoughts on Week 14
By Cullen Jekel
14. For some reason, coming into this season, there was a debate about who was the better tight end between Travis Kelce and George Kittle. Now, I get it, Kittle went down early, but Kelce has emphatically answered the call so much that we now need to talk about him being one of the greatest tight ends of all-time.
15. Too far? I disagree. But, hey: at least the argument can be made that Kelce is the greatest Chiefs tight end of all-time, leaving Tony Gonzalez in his wake. Kelce still has years ahead of him, and he’ll need to stay healthy, but there’s a superstar factor to consider, and Kelce wins that particular battle against Gonzalez 10 out of 10 times.

16. I only watched a bit of the Steelers game, but Ben Roethlisberger, a surefire Hall of Famer, looks like he’s nearing the finish line. The Steelers have never been an organization to tank a season, though, so watch out for them to be a wild card in the draft, and maybe select Florida’s Kyle Trask toward the end of the first round.
17. Another to watch out for regarding selecting Trask: the Saints. That franchise is facing some seismic changes this offseason, or next offseason. Either way, it’s time to start preparing for life after Drew Brees.
18. While we’re on the subject of future quarterbacks for teams, what are the Raiders going to do? Derek Carr has looked mighty pedestrian since his game against the Chiefs, throwing a total of five touchdowns and four interceptions in the last three games. In the game he won, against the Jets, he completed less than 60% of his passes. I’d always believed the Raiders would make a huge splash at quarterback when they moved to Las Vegas akin to the Rams drafting Jared Goff at No. 1 after arriving from St. Louis. But the Raiders didn’t do that, and now they’re stuck with the third-best QB in the AFC West.
19. I’ll be writing more about this later, but don’t ignore the college football coaching carousel: one of those guys could wind up on the Chiefs’ staff next season. Mainly, I’m thinking Lovie Smith, the former Bears, and Bucs coach who was just fired after a disastrous stint at Illinois could wind up with the Chiefs in some capacity in 2021.
20. Lastly, the Kansas City Chiefs look like they could very much finish 15-1–if they needed to. Week 17 may not end up counting for much. Let’s hope the Chiefs can take care of business these next two games and not have to worry about playing the starters much, if at all, against the Chargers on January 3rd.
