Weapons, Weapons, Weapons

The biggest argument I’ve heard amongst the fans regarding the MVP award is that Mahomes has a wide array of weapons to throw the ball to while Aaron Rodgers is over here working with nobodies. I’m not sure I’m sold on this point, as Rodgers has a good run game in Green Bay, so the pressure is taken off of him. The Packers’ defense is also playing well.

Meanwhile, Mahomes is forced to put the team on his back in recent weeks because the run game isn’t doing anything and the defense has sputtered. He’s responded too, putting up monster numbers in the past five games.

Yes, Mahomes has the likes of Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill to throw to, but Rodgers has Aaron Jones in the backfield and also has DaVante Adams at his disposal. Both quarterbacks have a clearcut WR1, Mahomes has the best tight end in the game, and Rodgers has one of the best running backs to hand off to.

I understand a lot of non-Chiefs fans think Mahomes’ success is due to the weapons he has, but Rodgers isn’t exactly swimming in mediocrity in Green Bay. Adams and Jones are two of the best in the league at their position, just like Hill and Kelce are two of the best at their position.

When it comes down to it, will the NFL look at Mahomes’ weapons of Kelce, Hill, Sammy Watkins, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire and think he’s less deserving? I doubt it, but we’ll find out.
