The Kansas City Chiefs were ranked as the No. 1 NFL team in the FanSided 250 and were No. 7 on the overall rankings.
It was a year to remember for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs won their first Super Bowl title in 50 years back in February, which now seems like ages ago. Getting to the Super Bowl was a memorable experience that fans will never forget.
It started with Patrick Mahomes getting injured in Week 7 and backup quarterback Matt Moore coming in to replace him for the rest of that game and the next two starts. Without Moore’s heroics, the Chiefs aren’t in the situation they were at the end of the regular season. He went 1-1 as a starter and was an underrated member of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl-winning team.
Heading into the final week of the regular season, the Chiefs were sitting in the No. 3 seed. The Dolphins ended up knocking off the Patriots, handing KC the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye. It wasn’t looking good when Kansas City was trailing 24-0 to the Texans after a quarter and a half in the AFC Divisional Round, but we all know what happened next — It was 28-24 Chiefs by half time.
The Chiefs also trailed in both the AFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl, but came back and won both of those games as well. It was an exciting time for Kansas City and one that Chiefs fans will never forget.
Because they’re the Super Bowl champions, it only makes sense that the Kansas City Chiefs be the top-ranked NFL team on the FanSided 250.
Some might be wondering why the team isn’t higher in general though. The fans are great after all, setting the record for the loudest outdoor stadium back in a 2014 Monday Night Football game against the Patriots and they were huge in helping the team get their first title in five decades. So, why are they No. 7 on the FanSided 250?
One of the biggest things that come to mind is the way fans reacted during the Moment of Unity in Week 1 against the Texans. It was a moment intended for us to reflect on everything negative happening in our country but Chiefs fans attending the game (with only a select few being able to do so due to the pandemic) booed. It was a bad look for the team and the city.
This is just me speculating, of course, but it was a really embarrassing moment for Chiefs fans. They had a chance to show the nation how great Kansas City is but chose to act in a negative fashion. It was disappointing, to say the least.
But this article is to highlight Chiefs Kingdom, so let’s end on a high note. Some of these fans waited their entire lives for a Super Bowl championship and one finally came earlier this year. There were some really painful playoff losses for Chiefs fans over the last — Oh I don’t know, FIVE DECADES — but this year washed all of that pain away.
The Kansas City Chiefs are no longer chokers in the playoffs. They are the Super Bowl champions for the first time in 50 years.
