Which Kansas City Chiefs players should fans keep an eye on in this weekend’s matchup against the Broncos?
The Kansas City Chiefs look to make it 10 wins in a row against their AFC West foes, the Denver Broncos. The last time the Broncos won against Kansas City was in September of 2015 when it took a last-second scoop and score for Denver to win the game. Ever since it’s been all Chiefs in this rivalry.
While this weekend’s game isn’t really deserving of being under the bright lights of primetime, it wasn’t flexed out — most likely because aside from Browns/Titans there really weren’t many better games to choose from. That means the Chiefs will play their second Sunday Night Football game in the past three weeks.
These two teams are no stranger to meeting on Sunday Night Football though it has been a while. They’ve played in primetime frequently over the years and that’s helped push the Chiefs to win all of those games.
Anyway, without further ado, let’s check out who Chiefs Kingdom should be keeping a watchful eye on in this weekend’s matchup.
Mike Remmers
The Chiefs made it a point to sign offensive line depth in the offseason, which proved pivotal as they lost two of their starting guards from their playoff run a season ago. Mike Remmers was one of the offensive linemen signed as a depth piece and the Chiefs have certainly put him to work.
Mitchell Schwartz exited the Week 6 game over the Bills after just one snap and hasn’t returned to action since he left that game. Remmers has filled in at right tackle and has actually played quite well. Matt Lane of Arrowhead Pride wrote up a very nice film review of Remmers and how he’s been faring at right tackle so far.
The reason why Remmers is someone to watch for this week is that the Broncos, for all of their shortcomings, have a decent pass rush. They’re currently tied for seventh in sacks and Bradley Chubb has 7.5 sacks through 11 games.
The Broncos might not have Von Miller this season, but Chubb is capable of getting after the quarterback. Patrick Mahomes was sacked three times in the Week 7 victory and Malik Reed was responsible for two of those sacks, so hopefully, Remmers is up for the challenge.
