So, does the glove fit? Because if not, you must acquit. Or at least move on to look at other job vacancies.

You know, it’s kind of interesting. One thing Bieniemy should definitely consider is who’s going to be making the personnel decisions going forward with the Lions, or whatever team he talks to. He’ll want a say in that, naturally–both in the decisions themselves but who’s the one making the decisions.

With all of these current head coaching vacancies, there’s also a general manager vacancy. Bieniemy should push for the Lions, or whomever, to hire someone currently under Chiefs general manager Brett Veach, such as Mike Borgonzi.

Overall, perhaps the question shouldn’t be Is Eric Bieniemy a fit for the Detroit Lions? It should instead be Are the Detroit Lions a fit for Eric Bieniemy?

Regardless, the answer to both questions is no.

I doubt the Lions are going to want to go with the young coordinator route after a disastrous tenure with Patricia. Caldwell had been a head coach before with the Colts, and that helped him in Detroit. While I couldn’t guarantee it, I’d bet Detroit goes with someone who’s had head coaching experience on either the college or NFL level–or both*.

And this doesn’t look like a great job for Bieniemy. Sure, he may jump at it if it’s offered, but hopefully, he can be choosey and, well, not choose this one. The Jets job, which isn’t open yet, could net him Trevor Lawrence while he could coach Deshaun Watson in Houston.

The Jaguars–again, not open yet–have a ton of cap space and a high draft pick to spend on a young quarterback. While the Falcons look like a mess, they’ve at least been to the Super Bowl recently, and by recently I mean since it’s existed.

So, if I’m tasked with answering this question of whether Bieniemy’s a fit in Detroit, I say nay.

But what say you?
