The KC Chiefs have been the No. 2 seed for a while now and that remains the case after the Steelers beat the Ravens on Wednesday.

Week 12 is finally in the books and the final game of the week was an important one as far as playoff implications were concerned. The Kansas City Chiefs moved to 10-1 on Sunday but watched as the Pittsburgh Steelers remained unbeaten, moving to 11-0 after taking down the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday afternoon.

Let’s take a look at the AFC playoff standings after Week 12.

  1. Pittsburgh Steelers (11-0) – BYE
  2. Kansas City Chiefs (10-1)
  3. Tennessee Titans (8-3)
  4. Buffalo Bills (8-3)
  5. Cleveland Browns (8-3)
  6. Miami Dolphins (7-4)
  7. Indianapolis Colts (7-4)

In the hunt: Baltimore Ravens (6-5), Las Vegas Raiders (6-5)

If the season concluded today, the KC Chiefs would host the Indianapolis Colts in the first round of the playoffs. I know this is a different Chiefs team, but the idea of playing the Colts in the first round of the playoffs is something that still scares Chiefs fans a bit considering their playoff history against Indianapolis.

The other AFC Wild Card games would be the Titans hosting the Dolphins and the Bills hosting the Browns. With only the No. 1 seed getting a first-round bye, Chiefs fans need to keep hoping the Steelers drop a game or two and that the Chiefs continue to win.

It’s absolutely wild to me that heading into the 2020 season, the Ravens were Kansas City’s biggest competition in the AFC but if the season ended today, Baltimore would miss the playoffs altogether. Heck, they’re third in their division!

Now, let’s glance at how the NFC side of things is looking after Week 12:

  1. New Orleans Saints (9-2) – BYE
  2. Green Bay Packers (8-3)
  3. Seattle Seahawks (8-3)
  4. New York Giants (4-7)
  5. Los Angeles Rams (7-4)
  6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-5)
  7. Arizona Cardinals (6-5)

In the hunt: Minnesota Vikings (5-6), San Francisco 49ers (5-6), Chicago Bears (5-6)

The Saints continue to hold onto that No. 1 seed despite not having Drew Brees for the past two games. They would get the lone first-round bye in the NFC playoffs, but the three matchups we’d get to watch would be the Packers hosting the Cardinals, Seattle hosting Tampa Bay, and the Giants hosting the Rams.

Six of the seven teams appear to be locks to make the playoffs, but the biggest question mark in the NFC is who will win the NFC East? Also, I normally don’t list any teams with losing records in the “in the hunt” category, but with the Cardinals losing this weekend, it did make things a little more interesting.

Back to the Kansas City Chiefs and the AFC playoffs though, it’s frustrating watching the Steelers continue to win. They have to play the Bills, Colts, and Browns down the stretch so hopefully, they trip up in all three of those games and the Chiefs can cruise past them for that No. 1 seed.

At this point, any loss the Chiefs suffer will not only put them further behind in the race for the No. 1 seed, but it’ll give Pittsburgh more momentum moving forward. It’ll be crazy if a 15-1 or 14-2 record isn’t good enough for the No. 1 seed (most years it would be), but that’s football for you.
