Long-term fits for Eric Bieniemy – Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions continue to be a team and an organization no one takes seriously, and why should they? From the top to bottom, this organization is awful. However, there are a few aspects of the team that are attractive and could entice Eric Bienemy.

Matthew Stafford may be viewed as an asset, but an aging quarterback with a big cap number isn’t exactly a valuable asset for a coach. However, Stafford is far more established than anything Jacksonville or Los Angeles has in the fold, and with draft picks in the early rounds this year, the Lions have the opportunity to add young talent.

The Lions do have some young receivers, a young corner, and some assets. With a good draft and a solid pickup in the draft, the Lions could be competitive. Being in the same division with the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings (not to mention the fact the Lions lost to the Bears), the Lions have work to do.

Bienemy can do better than Detriot, an organization still a few years away and may not have the patience for a new head coach after dealing with the dumpster fire that was the Matt Patricia regime. I would expect the Lions to look for a head coach with previous head coaching experience or someone coming from the college ranks. Would Matt Campbell or Jim Harbaugh be interested?
