Long-term fits for Eric Bieniemy – Houston Texans

The Texans are an organization in an ugly state with a star quarterback. No job opening offers a more polarizing situation than Houston.

Yes, the team has Deshaun Watson under contract. However, they have no cap room (projected over the cap for next season), an aging roster and no draft picks (first and second-round pick this year belong to the Dolphins). With questions surrounding the organization in its entirety, how attractive is the Houston job?

Perhaps a new coach will find the idea of a completely new and overhauled front office to go along with being with Watson attractive. The first year could be dicey without draft picks or cap room, but with the quarterback, can the Texans lure some low-cost free agents to the squad to compete and win games in the first season?

The Houston job, despite the quarterback situation, is a tough sell. The AFC South is a tough division with the Jaguars likely becoming more competitive and the Titans and Colts are tough outs. With the likely departure of contributors such as Will Fuller and questions surrounding long-time star defender J.J. Watt, it feels like the Texans will get worse before they get better.
