Long-term fits for Eric Bieniemy – Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have many similarities to the Jacksonville Jaguars in that their owner isn’t great, the city doesn’t really support the team, and they have a continued history with injuries. However, a team that has been close in numerous games this season and appears to have their quarterback of the future in Justin Herbert makes the Chargers an attractive opportunity for any prospective head coach.

Los Angeles, beyond the quarterback, has solid wide receivers, a good tight end, and a dominant pass rusher. The Chargers are also positioned to pick in the top 10, perhaps looking for a tackle to protect Herbert or a defensive player. They also have good cap room to work with next season.

Do the Chargers want a coach that has never been a coach before? Does Bienemy want to go somewhere that, while the team has a nice stadium, is a blip on the sports radar in Los Angeles and have an awful track record of injuries? Would he want to go up against his former team twice a year?

With an established general manager in Tom Telesco, does that make the job more attractive (GM knows roster, scouts, etc) or less (Does he want to work with him, can he identify talent, etc)?
