KC Chiefs: What we learned about the AFC West after Week 12
With their win over Tampa Bay and the Raiders’ loss to Atlanta, the KC Chiefs inch closer to clinching their fifth straight AFC West title.
It’s weird to think that a week ago we were harping on how the Raiders could have significantly closed the gap between them and the Chiefs in the AFC West race, but now the race is pretty much over. It’d take an epic collapse by the Chiefs in order for the Raiders to have a shot in the division.
As for this weekend’s games, I was most looking forward to the Chiefs/Buccaneers matchup, of course. It looked like it was going to be all-Chiefs when the team got off to a 17-0 lead, but they let up off the gas and that opened things up for the Bucs to crawl back into it. Fortunately, Kansas City held on for their 10th win of the season.
AFC WEST STANDINGS
- Kansas City Chiefs (10-1)
- Las Vegas Raiders (6-5)
- Denver Broncos (4-7)
- Los Angeles Chargers (3-8)
Week 13 Games
- Raiders at Jets – Sunday (12:00 CST)
- Chargers vs Patriots – Sunday (3:25 CST)
- Broncos at Chiefs – Sunday (7:25 CST)
None of those games are all that exciting, but give me the Chiefs/Broncos battle simply for Patrick Mahomes. Kansas City is looking to win its 10th straight game against Denver while the Broncos are now shifting their goal into playing spoiler down the stretch. If they can’t make the playoffs, they’re going to do what they can to prevent others from reaching their goals.
Raiders/Jets is only worth watching to see if the Raiders do indeed meltdown like they did this time last year. They were destroyed by the Jets last year in that meltdown, so let’s see if history repeats itself here. Chargers/Patriots would be more enticing if LA were making smarter decisions or if Cam Newton weren’t coming off of a game where he threw for less than 100 yards.
