KC Chiefs: Five wide receivers to potentially target in 2021 NFL Draft
By John McCarty
After Tee Higgins was drafted last season and Justyn Ross was forced to miss the season, senior Amari Rodgers has been asked to step up and be a primary contributor for the Clemson offense. He has responded to the tune of 48 catches. 720 yards and six touchdowns, all career highs. He leads Clemson in catches, touchdowns, and yards.
Rodgers is interesting in that he’s built more like a running back (5’10” and 210 pounds) and is quicker than he is fast but during his career with Clemson has only been asked to carry the ball six times. However, with the ball in his hands, he can be dangerous.
He can run receiver routes and is confident when catching the ball with his hands, but far too much of his production comes on quick, college-style screens, at least in the past. He has begun to run more ‘traditional’ receiver routes in 2020 as the primary target.
If he can continue to show the development in the nuances of the receiver, he could be an interesting name to follow through the rest of this season and through the pre-draft process.
