The Kansas City Chiefs need to address the cornerback position this offseason and they do just that in the recent CBS Sports mock draft.

Cornerback is always an area of need for the Kansas City Chiefs. Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports posted his recent mock draft and had the Chiefs, picking at No. 32 of course, selecting Jaycee Horn out of South Carolina.

"Bashaud Breeland is set to hit free agency, so the Chiefs will likely need another physical man-coverage specialist on the outside."

It’s no secret that Kansas City will put an emphasis on the defensive side of the ball this offseason and cornerback is as good a position as any to really fixate on improving. Horn played in six games this season before informing South Carolina that he’d be sitting out the remainder of the season  to focus on the 2021 NFL Draft.

Horn played at a high level for the Gamecocks, totaling 101 tackles and three sacks during his 2.5 years in Columbia. He had two interceptions this year and was a big boost on the South Carolina defense. Oh and he has a tie to the Chiefs, as his father is former NFL wide receiver Joe Horn, who played with the Chiefs from 1996-1999.

Jaycee Horn would be a nice spark for the Kansas City Chiefs defensively.

As Trapasso mentioned above, Breeland is hitting free agency this offseason. The Chiefs still have Rashad Fenton, L’Jarius Sneed, and Charvarius Ward at their disposal and might even be able to roll with DeAndre Baker as well.

Chiefs fans would be elated to have the team go with a cornerback in the first round, but a linebacker would be my preferred choice. Not many will be saddened to hear this, but Ben Niemann is set to be a free agent this offseason and it’s doubtful the Chiefs bring him back. That leaves them with Gay, Anthony Hitchens, and Damien Wilson for next season. They could use a linebacker more than anything.

With all of that being said, Horn would be a welcomed addition to the Chiefs secondary. Sneed showed promise as a rookie this year and Fenton has played well, but Ward regressed in his third year with the team. Having a first round talent join the fold would be a smart move for Kansas City.
